This year’s body of work is leading me in a different direction from previous years in that mark making and repetition of a number of steps dictate the process. I find great pleasure in the layering of the oil paint, and find that starting from the very beginning – the stretcher bars – forces me to slow down and breathe in every single detail. So that in the end I might be able to say that I made this work literally from scratch. I work on the floor and do not use reference material but feel that order and chaos could be part of the process, as are hope and desperation, trust and doubt.
With this body of work I wish to explore new avenues of making, find the truth in the process and show the result through oils on linen.
